St Augustine’s entered a girls and boys’ team into a local football tournament on Thursday 9th November. There were many strong schools present and all displayed a brilliant attitude as they played the game with a great spirit.
The girls’ team improved with every game, showing how they are growing more and more to play well as a cohesive unit. Each player stood out in their own way, each one playing with enthusiasm and battling for every ball. Winning one, drawing one and losing one, they were very unlucky to lose out on the Semi-Finals due to goal difference. Maisie scored the goal, with many others coming close and defending as a team.
The boy’s team also grew into the tournament after a tough start and tricky, windy conditions. Every single player threw themselves in front of every ball, determined to stop any attack on the goal by any means necessary. Despite drawing the first and losing the second, they rebounded with a strong, 3-0 victory in the third game, with Arley displaying his striking prowess and Elwood curving in a beautiful strike after a mazy run. Despite not winning the next two, drawing and losing narrowly, both games were close and swung on fine margins. The team can be very proud of their performance and discipline.
Both sides enjoyed the day and learnt a lot from the experience, we look forward to playing more matches very soon.
