With the new National Curriculum in place from September 2014, we have taken the opportunity to design inspiring and relevant learning opportunities for our children, based on their individual needs and experiences and the local, national and global context. You will find the broad objectives for each subject in the document below, but teacher will often use learning experiences as they occur (for example, a big news event eg 100th anniversary of WW1) or a local issue (eg homelessness in Weymouth) rather than sticking to the same rigid topics every year. This enables the children to have unique and highly relevant learning experiences.
Another aspect of our curriculum which we are developing is the "Curriculum for the Common Good". This is based on the Catholic model that our schools have a moral purpose to help everyone and be a force for good in the world. An example of this is where some children's learning will be based around raising funds for a charity or raising awareness of an issue or cause. We believe that this core belief underpins everything we do here at St Augustine's.

Calculation and Arithmetic
We believe that all children should have the skills needed for the 4 number operations in maths. Consequently, we have developed our own calculation policy which you can download below.

We use aspects of the Jolly Phonics scheme to teach children their letters and sounds (Phonics). Additionally, staff will use other strategies to ensure children are progressing on the phases of phonics learning. There is a good explanation for parents here.
